Situation on the Belarusian-Polish border, blocked due to polish customs workers strike, is becoming explosive. Two attempts of illegal border crossing were noted: two Belarusian citizens tried to cross the border outside the border checkpoint. The strike damages Belarus at tens of millions dollars.
As for morning 28 January, the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border hasn’t improved. The biggest checkpoint Kazlovichy at Belarusian-Polish border has stopped its work as the strike of polish customs workers goes on. The situation at other checkpoints is getting worse.
Queues at border of Poland with Belarus, Ukraine and Russia are caused by a strike of polish customs workers. They demand their pay to be increased by 1500 zlotys (about USD 600). The Polish Ministry of Finance agrees on pay increase only by 500 zlotys (USD 200) per month.
The polish customs workers strike and caused by it queues at the Belarusian-Polish border have already damaged the Belarusian economy at tens of millions dollars, Syargei Nyargei, head of the foreign economic affairs department at the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Belarus, said to Interfax.
According to the latest information, representatives of the border departments of Belarus and Poland are to discuss the current situation at the border in the connection with the Polish customs workers strike. A meeting of the representatives of the State Border Control Committee of Belarus and border
guards of Poland is to take place at 3.00pm, BelTA reports.
