Nuclear power plant to be constructed in Belarus, even if people are against

On January 31 Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed a decree of the security council “On development of nuclear power industry in the Republic of Belarus”, according to which the first power-generating unit of the nuclear power plant to be put in operation in 2016.
The document contains a decision that construction of a nuclear power plant of 2000 megawatt to be constructed in Belarus. The first power-generating unit is to be launched in 2016, second in 2018.
However, the politics of the state on construction of a nuclear power station is not approved by everyone. Thus, more than 1,000 signatures of local inhabitants have been collected in Horki district Mahilyou region which is viewed as a site for construction of the plant.
As said by the head of the public anti-nuclear initiative Pyotr Malanachkin, collection of signatures won’t be stopped until solution to construct nuclear power station revoked.
