Celebration dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Poland’s independence has taken place. Alyaksandr Milinkevich has taken part in them.
The leaders of 15 countries, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have flocked to Warsaw to take part in the celebrations.
According to Milinkevich, it is evidence that Poland plays an important role in present-day European politics, including realization of the partnership programs of the EU in the East, the website milinkevich.org informs.
“In his speech the Polish president made an important remark that the Poles deserved their freedom because they had fought for it for centuries. Despite of the more than a century of oppression, numerous partitions of the Commonwealth of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, this country has managed to renew its independence. It is very important to remember that freedom never comes on its own. We have much in common with Poland: a similar history, common heroes, culture and uprising figures,” Alyaksandr Milinkevich said.
Poland may become an example of fighting for independence for Belarus, according to former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich. There is nothing more valuable than freedom and sovereignty. During the ceremony speakers noted that integration with Europe should be maximal, but in the European Union Poland should remain Poland, to preserve its culture, history and identity.
The celebration of the great day for all Poles started with a solemn mass in the St. Cross church. Foreign guests and generals have taken part in it. After that there was a parade in Pilsudski Square, a firework, a speech of the president and laying flowers to the Unknown Soldier. Leaders of states were invited to open an arts exhibition. Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife gave a banquet in the Royal Castle and a ball in the Great Theatre.
