Lukashenka: “We would like to become more active in Syrian direction” (Video)

Today Alyaksandr Lukashenka has met with Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji al-Otri who is on visit in Minsk.

“We would like to step up our efforts in Syrian direction. We have a big interest in the positive processes, which are going on in Syria,” he said. This causes the desire of Belarus to take part in realization of programs in Syria, deliveries of Belarusian equipment to Syria and to the Middle East through it.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka noted that Belarus is also interested in greater presence of Syria in the country, in particular of Syrian businessmen, investments and goods. “I think to make this process more dynamic we should exchange visits at the highest during one year period,” the president said.

Syrian Prime Minister thanked Belarus for principled position and support and conveyed warm wishes to the Belarusian ruler from President Bashar al-Assad. He noted that Syria wants just peace which would meet views of nations to be in the region of the Middle East.

“A few years ago economic sanctions were imposed on Syria as allegedly the main problem. Now those who introduced the sanctions name the country the key way out. It is a testimony of Syria’s correct stance,” he said.

Mohammad Naji al-Otri added, Syria had recently signed an agreement on partnership with the European Union on Syria’s terms.
