Andrei Sannikov: “Last dictatorship in Europe will be in focus of attention of US new administration”

New President of the United States Barack Obama has a difficult task to try to find solutions to a number of problems.

Andrei Sannikov, leader of the civil campaign “European Belarus”, told this in an interview to the Charter’97 press center, commenting on victory of democrat Barack Obama at the US presidential elections.

“It is a really historical day, because it is the first time in the history of the United States when an Afro-American has become President. One may say with certainty that Barack Obama will pay great attention to human rights,” Sannikov told.

The leader of the “European Belarus” thinks that the situation in our country won’t be passed over the American President.

“Obama has a difficult task to try to find solutions to a number of problems, he inherited from the Republican administration. First of all, these are the global financial crisis, which is of great concern of the Americans most. What about international problems, “painful points” are evident: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Near East. In my view, the last dictatorship in Europe will also be in the focus of attention of the US new administration. I don’t think Obama himself is well acquainted with the Belarusian issue, but his circle, Vice President Joe Biden first of all, knows well about the situation in Belarus and will continue the policy of the United States towards Belarus,” the politician said.
