Gazprom: Gas contract not with Belarus signed yet

3

Gazprom and Belarus are to have negotiations on gas supplies in 2009 until the end of December.

Official representative of the Russian holding Sergei Kupriyanov said it.

“Our Belarusian colleagues come by the end of the year,” RIA Novosti quotes Kupriyanov. “Nothing was signed so far.”

Presidents of Russia and Belarus on December 22 agreed on main principles of gas supplies and payment for it in the next year. New gas price hasn’t been announced yet.

On December 31, 2006, Gazprom and Beltransgaz signed a gas supply and transit contract for 2007-2011. Gas price for Belarus is linked to average European price with reduction factor. The document defined Belarus must pay 67 per cent of the average European price minus transport costs in 2008, 80 per cent in 2009, and 90 per cent in 2010. By 2011, Belarus should pay 100 per cent of the average European price.

Belarus bought Russian gas at $119 per 1,000 cubic meters in the first quarter 2008, the price reached $127.9 per 1,000 cubic meters in the second quarter of the year.
