Zeltser’s secretary Vladlena Funk sews quilted jackets in colony

Russian citizen Vladlena Funk sentences to 1 year of imprisonment in Belarus, sews quilted jackets in the correctional colony.

It has been said to Interfax-West by lawyer Dzmitry Harachka.

“After the trial V. Funk-Bruskova was sent to the correctional women colony No.4 in Homel. She works in 17th party. They sew quilted jackets,” Zmitser Harachka said.

“My client does not complain about incarceration conditions. She is quietly sewing quilted jackets and waiting for March 12, which is to mark one year after her detention in Minsk,” the lawyer said.

As informed earlier, on August 11, 2008 a citizen of Russia Vladlena Bruskova (Funk) was sentenced to 1 year of imprisonment by Minsk city court for alleged commercial espionage and use of forged documents together with the US citizen Emanuel Zeltser. She worked as his secretary.

E. Zeltser was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment for attempted industrial espionage and the use of fake documents.

The Supreme Court of Belarus upheld this judgement on October 31. All trials in this case were held behind the closed doors.

E. Zeltser and V. Funk were detained in Minsk on March 12, 2008 and put in the KGB jail. Some media supposed that E. Zeltser’s arrest is connected with a case a dispute over the estate of businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili, died in London.

E. Zeltser is a former Soviet emigrant, an expert in combating organised crime and money laundering in Russia and former Soviet states. He participated in the case of supposed money laundering via the Bank of New York.

At the moment he serves the sentence in the first party of the correctional colony No. 15 in Mahilyou.
