Common militiamen pay for human shield

The Kastrychnitski district court of Minsk satisfied an action of recourse of the Minsk militia department against former officers of traffic militia Henadz Darahakupets and Alyaksei Likhtarovich.

The court ordered more than 21 million rubles, or $6,000 to be collected from each. It is the sum that the Minsk city court decided to recover from the traffic militia city department in the case of the so called human shield, Radio Svaboda reports.

It should be reminded that on March 2, militiamen tried to stop drunken Raman Myantsyuk who was driving a car at a speed of 160 km/hand on the road Minsk-Mikashevichy. In order to stop the violator, traffic militiamen stopped a few cars with people in them and blocked the road by the cars. Four cars were damaged in the result. In June, Henadz Darahakupets and Alyaksei Likhtarovich are accused of abuse of power and were given two years of conditional sentence by the Minsk city court. They were dismissed from militia, they can’t find a job.

Henadz Darahakupets and Alyaksei Likhtarovich didn’t admit their guilt and said they had just fulfilled an order to stop. Traffic militia commandment apologized for their wrong actions in public.

It should be reminded that the court of the Minsk region and Zaslaue sentenced Raman Myantsyuk to 5 years of imprisonment on charges relating Article 317 Part 1of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules negligently which caused less serious injures).

A cassation appeal filed by lawyer Alena Maisenya was dismissed.
