Demonstration “Belarus to Europe!” in Minsk center (photo)

The action organised by the young Front dedicated to the day of love – St. Valentine’s Day, was held in Minsk. The today’s action, like previous ones, had slogan “Belarus to Europe!” The participant of the action visited embassies of the EU countries and the US embassy during their traditional rally.

The action started up on Freedom Square, where about 50 people had come by 5.00pm. They had national white-red-white flags, and balloons, banners “Long live Belarus!”, “Action of love!”, “Young Front.” The action ended near the US embassy.

The participants of the action visited a number of European and the US embassies to congratulate on St. Valentine’s Day and pass an address calling the EU and US governments to draw attention to the problem of political prisoners in Belarus.

The action looked like a performance, because most of young people came to the square disguised as angels: they wore white clothes and had wings on their backs.

Participants of the rally chanted: “Long live Belarus!”, “Belarus to Europe!”, “We believe! We can! We’ll win!” and lighted candles and Bengal lights.

Former political prisoners who were recently released, Zmitser Dashkevich and Artur Finkevich, as well as the member of the movement “For Freedom!” Alyaksandr Milinkevich his wife Ina Kulej, took part in the rally.

Though a snowstorm started at 6 p.m., the rally continued. When participants of the rally visited European Embassies, protesters approached Independence Avenue, where policemen blocked all ways to Presidential Administration.

The rally “Belarus to Europe!” finished near the US Embassy in Minsk. US Embassy First Secretary Louis Crishock came out of the Embassy to greet participants of the rally. He stated that “freedom, democracy and the problem of political prisoners in Belarus will always be one of the priorities of the US policy”.

People in mufti were observing the rally and filmed the participants.
