Uladzimir Berazhkou: News about Pressball’s depriving of accreditation – a shock 2

9:04, — Sport

The most popular sports newspaper of Belarus, “Pressball” has been deprived of accreditation. Such a decision was taken on February 28 by the executive board of the National Olympic Committee.

According to reports of BELTA, the head of the NOC commission on work with mass media Alexei Miroshnichenko stated that the newspaper started to publish articles that “do not respect feelings of Olympic champions and damage the business reputation of the NOC”.

The NOC Belarus First Vice-President Gennady Alekseenko believes that many articles of “Pressball” are biased, and are “in no way aimed at promotion of Olympic ideals”. “We cannot close this newspaper, but we have a right to express out attitude,” Gennady Alekseenko said. Their attitude was expressed unanimously. The NOC passed the accreditation to journalists of state-run newspapers.

For “Pressball” editor-in-chief Uladzimir Berazhkou this news was a shock. He told I an interview to Euroradio:

“We have all documents stating we are accredited. Only a name of the accredited journalist is to be entered. We have been accredited as a newspaper. I was always told that, and the NOC has confirmed that. And what I have read at BELTA news, it’s simply a shock for me. I cannot believe that, it’s impossible, as I see no grounds for that. That’s why I cannot comment it…”

Berazhkou is waiting for confirmation of his newspaper’s accreditation from the leadership of the National Olympic Committee.
