Viktar Ivashkevich: Lukashenka starts political game between Europe and Russia

“It demonstrates the beginning of a new period of bargaining of Lukashenka’s regime with Russia and Europe for some economic preferences,” told the deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party, one of initiators of the campaign “European Belarus”, commenting on release of Artur Finkevich.
“In order to start the dialogue with Europe, minimal and categorical condition which had been offered, is to be fulfilled, to release political prisoners. That is why it’s a compulsory measure. On the one hand, it demonstrates that the regime can make it, and it means that their position is not so steady. Secondly, it’s possible that some evolution is taking place in Belarus. However, I am convinced that it has been done not because of a sincere position of the authorities, but in connection with bargaining, foreign trade manipulations, a political game between Europe and Russia,” Viktar Ivashkevich told to Radio Svaboda.
