Leisure with BRSM 1

10:10, — Politics

President’s Administration is going to strengthen the pro-presidential youth organisation Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM). It is working out plans of promotion of the BRSM activity. The youth is likely to be mobilised before the autumn parliamentary election.

“Belorusski Partizan” got a document signed by Anatol Rubinau, first deputy head of the President’s Administration, and Aleh Pralayaskouski, former aide to Lukashenka, head of the main ideological department of the administration. In fact it is a new instruction for administration of higher education establishments on promoting BRSM influence among students.

In particular, rectors of state and non-state universities must “unsure using of halls and other unoccupied spaces in educational buildings for organising cultural and social events for students at their leisure under the BRSM supervision.”

Experts suppose the growing activity of the BRSM is connected with the forthcoming parliamentary election. The authorities are apparently to fear the opposition and on the model of Russia can use the BRSM as a crowd of extras on the election. Similar organisations in Russia (“Nashi” and “Young Guard”) made and are making much ado, turmoil about and clear provocations against the opposition. Belarus will probably use this experience.
