Uladzimir Sulkouski: “Freedom Day means everything for us”

11:27, — Politics

In what way Freedom Day could be celebrated? What does this holiday mean for the Belarusian intelligentsia? An artist Uladzimir Sulkouski believes that March 25 is such an event in the history of the country which should be considered a starting point of the modern life in Belarus.

“In our conditions the most important thing is that this holiday is vanishing from people’s memory. We should carry out educational activities to make people understand that it’s a holiday of the whole our country. It is natural we should take to the streets, so that people could understand that there are other individuals who have o fear. Today people seem possessed by fear. What a long time they are in fear…

For me it’s the holiday, the event which must be considered a starting point of all our life, all our statehood. If we have a state, we’ll have culture, we’ll have wellbeing… If we have a state only on paper, and no real institute of the state, the consequences are like this. That is why it’s connected with better life for me. There is a sacramental phrase: “It means everything for us…”
