Minsk dwellers believe: “Moral Advantage belongs to US” 5

15:33, — Politics

Minsk has recalled its Ambassador to Washington after financial sanctions against Belneftekhim concern were imposed. What do Minsk dwellers thing about the conflict? Radio Svaboda addressed them with this question.

The Correspondent: “Who is in charge of deterioration in Belarus-US relations?”

A woman: “I believe that the president in to blame certainly. He is a person who is out of touch sometimes. And in this case, I think, the situation is the same. Something had influenced him, some event or reason, and as a result such an inappropriate reaction followed”.

A man: “It’s the position of the regime. They are throwing themselves in all directions. And all sort of conclusions may be drawn from that”.

A young man: “It couldn’t be stated unequivocally. On the one hand, the moral advantage is on the side of the US. It’s their response to Kazulin’s arrest the reluctance to release him. And on the other hand, the US disobeys the international laws, as they mix together politics and economy. And from the point of view of the law the position of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus is more substantiated.

The Correspondent: “Who is in charge of deterioration in Belarus-US relations?”

A man: “Who is in charge? I think the authorities of the both countries. They should just sit down to the table of negotiations and try to find a compromise. I do not know what else I could say”.

A woman: “The relations are deteriorating. One can always hear Lukashenka shifting the blame to the shoulders of the US. One could think: isn’t it time for us to choose a different president? Maybe we would have better relations, wouldn’t we?”

A man: “It’s partially our blame. Anyway, the events that are taking place are not for the good of our leadership. For instance, the US Ambassador hasn’t even commented on this situation. It demonstrates the relations of the Americans to our county. When the sanctions were imposed, they were not imposed on all countries, and in particular in such a sphere as oil. That is why it is vexing that our government cannot find common ground with the European countries and with such great power as the US”.
