Belarusian Entrepreneur granted political asylum in Poland

A Belarusian businessman Anufry Ramanovich won’t be extradited to Belarus. According to the judge of the district court of Bialystok, extradition of the Belarusian is legally unacceptable.

Among the arguments in this case was a letter of the leader of “For Freedom” movement Alyaksandr Milinkevich. It is stated in the letter that Ramanovich is his associate and had been cooperating with the democratic forces of Belarus for a long time already, “Radio Racyja” informs.

Thus, the request of the official Minsk to extradite Anyfry Ramanovich who is charged in a criminal offence (tax evasion), was dismissed. By the ruling of the court, Ramanovich has been also released. He has spent more than a month under the arrest.

In the beginning of March Anufry Ramanovich was detained in Bielystok on the grounds of an arrest warrant received from Belarus. Before leaving Belarus he was a businessman. He donated to Leu Sapeha foundation in Vitsebsk. A political prisoner Paval Sevyarynets worked at his enterprise.

In 2000, when he decided to stand for a parliamentary election, the businessman started to face problems. Since that time searches in his apartment started, and his firm was subject to pressure of supervisory bodies.
