Mikola Statkevich, one of the leaders of the “European Belarus” campaign, chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada), invites the Belarusians to take part in Eurofair, which is to be held near the National library at 12.00pm on 1 May.
1 May is not only Labour Day in Belarus, it also has an important meaning for modern Belarusian history – 4 years ago 10 new states joined the European Union and the EU borders extended to Belarus.
“Our decision to hold Eurofair was taken in the frames of the civil campaign “European Belarus.” We heard some times that Lukashenka complained he organised festivities but the opposition didn’t take part in them. So we will come to the National library on 1 May. We hope the authorities will at last understand Belarus has no other alternative but moving to the European Union. But one essential step is needed here – holding of fair election,” Mikola Statkevich said in the interview to the Charter’97 press center.
According to the information on the site www.fpb.by “...The federation of Trade Unions is continuing its preparation for the day of labour – 1 May. This year the mass meeting is to begin near the National library at 12.00pm. After that comers will see concert of Belarusian singers. Such musical groups as Pesnyary, Chisty Golos, Nemiga, art-group Belarusians, Tyani-Tolkai, J:MORS and others will play on the gig.
