12:19, — Politics

Alyaksandr Lukashenka thinks Ukraine and Georgia joining to NATO is a question of time.

“I think Ukraine and Georgia joining to NATO is a question of time,” A. Lukashenka said during the report of minister of defence Leanid Maltsau on training of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Interfax informs.

Armed forced must be in wartime readiness”

According to the Belarusian head of state, “nobody pays attention to positions of Russia, Belarus and other post-Soviet countries.” “We must think about strengthening of our borders, our military forces,” A. Lukashenka said.

According to Lukashenka, “Armed forces must be in wartime readiness, keep finger on pulse of the country.” “We can’t say with satisfaction the situation around Belarus is quiet and there are no problems. You see the latest events, they even set sights on former Soviet republics,” Lukashenka said.

“Defending Belarus, we defend western borders of the “union” state,” the president noted. According to him, “the treaty with Russia is a sacred thing, and we must observe it, as Russia does, providing us with a reliable shield, including a nuclear one,” Lukashenka emphasised.

We are not rattling the sabre

He also said “we are going to hold integrated battle exercise. I think, it will be organised in the nearest time.” At the same time A. Lukashenka stressed that “We are not rattling the sabre.”
