Application for holding Charnobyl Way filed

An application for holding Charnobyl Way-2008 was sent to the Minsk city executive committee on 9 April. The organisers offer to meet near the National Academy of Sciences at 2.00pm.
BelaPAN learnt it from Yury Hubarevich, deputy head of organising committee on creation of the “For Freedom” movement.
The action is to take place in Minsk on 26 April. The organisers offer people to come to the presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus at 2.00pm, and then walk along Independence Avenue to the same-named square in the Minsk center, where it is planned to hold a meeting.
Participants of Charnobyl Way-2008 are going to protest against nuclear power plant construction in Belarus, the decision on its construction was taken without wide national discussion, and also against cancelling of social guarantees for victims of accident at Charnobyl nuclear plant.
Eight people signed up the application to the Minsk city executive committee: Alyaksandr Milinkevich, leader of the organising committee on creation of the “For Freedom” movement; Aleh Novikau, one of the leaders of the Belarusian Green party; Ihar Rynkevich, deputy head of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada); Alyaksandr Vauchanin, head of the public association “Union Charnobyl-Belarus” (Kyiv, Ukraine); Yury Melyashkevich, chairman of the commission on ecology and consequences of the Belarusian Popular Front party; human rights activist Uladzimir Labkovich; Mikhail Pashkevich, one of the leaders of the youth organisation “Young Democrats” at the United Civil Party; and Aleh Shapavalau, member of the Belarusian Communists Party.
