Action of solidarity to be held on October Square

An action of solidarity with businessman Sayrhei Parsyukevich, Andrei Kim and other youth activists, sentenced on the trial of 14, will take place on October Square in Minsk at 6.00pm on the Day of Belarusian Solidarity on 16 May.

“We are obliged to express solidarity with those who are imprisoned or are kept in open type penal institutions on politically motivated grounds,” Viktar Kalei, one of the leaders of the registered in Ukraine organisation “For Free Development of Business,” told in an interview to the site of the United Civil Party. “The authorities, organising the show trials over participants of the rally of entrepreneurs, expected to intimidate active people. We need to demonstrate that Kim and Parsyukevich are not alone.

Initiators of the action noted that no permissions of the authorities are needed for a human chain. There are two decisions of the Supreme Court of Belarus, signed by its head Valyantsin Sukala and then his assistant and present chairman of the Constitutional Court Pyotr Miklashevich. They say people who take to streets with portraits do not commit an administrative offence, it is their legal right.
