A nonsimple situation is getting around alcoholic drinks in Belarus: cognacs, whiskies, vodkas and wines, imported to the country are not just rising in price. Range of drinks in Belarusian liquor stores is getting poor every day.
Though specialists say there is no deficit, a buyer often leaves shops unsuited.
“The current situation on the market of imported alcohol in view of change of importing order can’t be named a deficit,” a representative of a company-importer told to Interfax. “At the same time we can observe narrowing of the range and price rise of some species of drinks.”
In particular, market players notice stock reduction of middle price brackets grapewines and cognacs. “Many suppliers sell the remains of the most popular species of drinks,” a company-importer said.
This problem can be noticed in the Minsk trading network, too. “There is no deficit so far, but we lack of some items, for example common wines and Armenian brandies,” Uladzimir Nerozya, director of Yubileiny-92 store, told to Interfax.
As compared to previous year, imported cognac has grown in price by approximately 80 per cent. The same situation can be seen around wine. The Ministry of Trade urges not to dramatise the situation, assuring there is imported alcohol in plenty, moreover, analogs of imported drinks are produced in Belarus. These alcoholic drinks are cheaper than imported alcohol. If only high price bracket cognac disappears from shops, it won’t be noticed in the country.
It occurs that due to withdrawal of alcohol import quotas in February, the state lost its sole right for its import, and the Belarusian middle class will live a healthy, it means sober, lifestyle. A person, who has bought Italian wines and French cognac, Scotch whisky and American bourbon will hardly buy “Kryzhachok” or “Jablachny Vodar” (cheap law quality alcoholic rinks), which are amply in Belarusian shops.
