Henryk Litwin, Polish Ambassador to Belarus, thinks the contacts between the heads of the two states are impossible until all political prisoners are released and democratic reforms are conducted.

“Poland maintains the common position of the European Union. This position is that the contacts between the heads of the states are impossible now. The future of this issue depends on the development of the dialog between the European Union and Belarus,” the Polish diplomat said on Wednesday at an on-line conference.

The diplomat also stressed, that “we, along the rest of the European Union, expect the people, who got in prisons due to their political activity, to be released.”

According to H. Litwin, “there’s a common position of the European Union, so we can’t speak about independence here, though we conduct a dialog with Belarus in the spheres falling within national cognizance,” the ambassador said. He clarified the case was in the dialog on economy, cross-border cooperation, ecology and culture.

Moreover, the ambassador said his was concerned with the planning nuclear power plant construction in Belarus.

“Some anxiety arises there,” he said. He also added: “Pay attention to the Poland’s position towards Ignalina nuclear power plant in Lithuania. Our country is one of the main four investors of the plant modernisation.”

“The question is not in the nuclear plant construction itself, but in safe technology on the plant,” the Polish Ambassador to Belarus said.
