Prosecutor’s office hasn’t found guilty persons in “Multclub” case

7

Nobody is found responsible in the case of “Multiklub”. As informed by V. Shaban, an investigator for particularly important cases of Minks prosecutor’s office, the case will be closed within the next week, and the confiscated office equipment returned to journalists.

In a conversation with Bulletinonline correspondent, the special investigator V. Shaban said that the case will be closed within the next week, as guilty persons haven’t been found.

The prosecutor’s office of Minsk has also promised to return all office equipment seized during searches on March 27 to the journalists. Besides, the junior counselor of justice noted sympathetically that “personally he would give back all system blocks right now if he could, if they were in his office, as nobody is responsible in this case”.

On March 27 between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. searches were held all over the country in offices and in private apartments of independent journalists.

KGB officers visited journalists in Minsk, Vitsebsk, Homel, Hrodna, Maholyou, Babrujsk, Brest, Byaroza… Most often journalists were asked about cooperation with foreign mass media, in particular the Polish TV channel Belsat. After interrogations and searches the KGB confiscated a huge number of computers, video cameras, Dictaphones, data carriers and documents.

During the searches journalists were demonstrated the same search warrant signed by a deputy prosecutor general of Minsk A. Stuk. Recently A. Stuk was appointed Deputy Prosecutor general by Lukashenka. Officially the searches were held in the framework of the loud case of “Multclub”. It was a criminal case initiated back in 2005 by Minsk prosecutors’ office for publishing cartoons “discrediting honour and dignity of the Belarusian president” on the Web. Main persons involved in investigation were Hrodna dwellers Marozau, Minich and Abozau. Now they are abroad in a status of political refugees.

It is interesting that in 2006 oppositionists were detained for connection with the Multclub case. But later they stood trial for violations under other articles.
