Uladzimir Parfyanovich: “There’s no “parliament” in Belarus now”

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has recently made a statement, which surprised the former deputies of the “house of representatives”. “Parliament is a supreme legislative power, where one should write laws,“ he said speaking about the future composition of the “parliament”.

– None of the draft laws was prepared by the “parliament” – Uladzimir Parfyanovich, three-time Olympic champion, member of the 2-nd “house of representatives”, said in an interview to “Belorusski Partizan”. – Only those drafts, which are prepared by the Center of Draft Law Activity at the Presidential Administration, are discussed in the Oval chamber. No draft law were prepared by an MP.

Once I prepared a draft law on strengthening of control of drug addiction and drug business. But I had to spend a year to approve it! Nobody wants to deal with it in these conditions. Frankly speaking, many people don’t want to look for trouble: they are satisfied with the salary and the position.

So Mps don’t write laws in the “parliament”. Lukashenka told lies. They just consider and approve them. So, Lukashenka doesn’t know what his “deputies” do. Or he judges by the times, when the Supreme Council acts in Belarus, where real deputies used to work. There’s no “parliament” in Belarus now, “the house of representatives” is governed by the Presidental Asdmnistration, – Uladzimir Parfyanovich noted.

It should be reminded that parliamentary “elections” in Belarus are scheduled for autumn 2008. All elections and referendums in Belarus since 1996 have been recognised as unfree and non-democratic by international organisations.
