Eauheni Shyhalau, general director of Zhdanovichy shopping center, who has been in custody since April 2008, was changed a level of restriction, Interfax has leant from law-enforcement agencies.

“His relatives stood bail of Br 10 bln (USD 4,740,000) for him, and Y. Shyhalou was changed a level of restriction and released on bail,” the law-enforcement agencies informed.

They also explained he was in the Republican Academic and Research Cardiological Center at the moment and was expected to be released in a day or two.

Y. Shyhalau has been under treatment in the cardiological center for the last weeks. As the agency has learnt, “his ward was watched by militia, as he was under custody. Now, when a decision on changing a level of restriction was reached, a militia post has been lifted.”

“According to the law, a bailed accused must come to questionings on call, and if the obligations are broken, a sum of bail will be paid into account of a prosecuting agency,” Interfax learnt from law-enforcement agencies.

As Interfax reported earlier referring to the Ministry of Internal Affaires of Belarus, on 5 April general director of Zhdanovichy shopping center, his assistant and a governmental official were detained in Minsk.

A criminal case on illegal seizure of land and on article 424 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power or official misconduct) was instigated against detained Y. Shyhalau.

15 April Y. Shyhalau and the detained together with him people were presented an accusation over part 3 of article 424 “Abuse of power or official misconduct” of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
