Barys Khamaida arrested for three days

2

An oppositionist, attacked by an unknown hooligan, has turned into an offender from a victim.

Barys Khamaida was guarded to the Chyhunachny district militia department about 11 in the morning to register his complaint he had been attacked by a hooligan on Lenin Street near house No. 28. However, it was found out in the department a militiaman in civvies saw a conflict between the oppositionist and an unknown man. The militiaman said Khamaida was the first to violate the public peace. A militia report says the 60-year old oppositionist allegedly insulted a jobless man, born in 1971, with rude words. The latter was set free.

The Chyhunachny district court affirmed the position of the militiaman and sentenced the oppositionist to tree days of arrest.

The Vitsebsk oppositionist thinks it was a provocation to “isolate” him for the time of Slavic Bazaar fest, or at least for the first day of the fest, when Alyaksandr Lukashenka is to visit Vitsebsk.

Militia officers said him several times his presence in the city center during the fest as a distributor of independent press was unwelcomed.

The oppositionist was detained three times over the last three days, but militiamen set him free after some hours. Khamaida will spend the next three days in the detention facility.
