Two UCP candidates withdraw from “election”

Head of the Homel regional organisation of the United Civil Party Vasil Palyakou and Homel UCP activist Leanid Sudalenka refused to run in the parliamentary election.

On September 1, they sent messages to district election commissions, informing about their decisions.

The Belarusian Popular Front and the organising committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy announce they would withdraw their candidates till September 23. Democratic candidates withdrew from the “election” in the Homel Region. Only the communist are running in the “election” now.

It should be reminded that the Political Council of the opposition parties decided to consider an issue on withdrawal from the “election campaign” on September 21.

“The parties laid down the conditions, the key one being including of our representatives into election commissions. These conditions weren’t fulfilled. So, as we promised, we refuse to run in the campaign and eliminate our candidatures,” Vasil Palyakou told in an interview to www.ucpb.org.

He emphasised that the democratic candidates have run in the so called parliamentary election as a political campaign and go on running.

“There are different forms of running in the election and political campaign,” Vasil Palyakou noted. “We will explain to the electorate why we have withdrawn, why this “election” is not true and why people shouldn’t go to polls.”
