Ahmadinejad calls to “remove barriers” in cooperation with Belarus

7

The Iranian dictator said on December 16 during a meeting with the Belarusian minister of industry that Tehran and Belarus are going to further expand relations.

“Existing barriers in trade and economic cooperation should be removed as soon as possible to promote constructive cooperation between the two countries,” the Iranian dictator said.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad noted the untapped capacity for economic cooperation should be explored by both countries. “We believe that such an action would enhance the level of trade and economic cooperation," the Iranian leader said, Telegraf reports referring to Xinhua news agency.

The Belarusian industry minister said in turn ties between Iran and Belarus are of strategic nature. “Joint resolve to enhance economic cooperation would be significant for both nations. Prospects for ties between the two countries are very promising. We will be able to remove barriers to meet the two nations' interests,” Anatoly Rusetsky said.

Belarus and Iran established diplomatic relations in 1992 and the two sides have stayed in good relations in recent years with regular high-level meetings and various agreements.

Iran has signed an agreement to launch an assembly line of the car production in Belarus and has also established a bank in Belarus in a bid to facilitate financial and banking services between the two countries.
