Political prisoner Artsyom Dubski face health problems in pre-trial detention center

Activist of the “Young Front”, kept in the Babruisk pre-trial detention center since February 13, has ulcer exacerbation.

Officers of the Babruisk pre-trial detention center phoned Nastassya Loika, friend of Artsyom Dubski, and said Dubski had gastric ulcer exacerbation due to chlorinated water. The participant of the Case of 14 suffered from gastric ulcer before.

According to them, Artsyom Dubski asked to pass over him much drinking water, because water in the detention facility is too bad.

It’s unknown whether Artsyom Dubski will be taken to hospital.

A participant of the Process of Fourteen Artsyom Dubski was arrested on February 13 in Homel on his way from Ukraine. The oppositionist has been in prison since then. He must stand two criminal trials. He had a trial over allegedly stolen SIM card on March 3. The case was closed, but Artsyom wasn’t released. He is waiting for another trial under article 415 of the Criminal Code (evasion of service the sentence in the form of restriction of freedom).

The Case of Fourteen is a criminal case under article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, instigated against participants of a peaceful protest demonstration of entrepreneurs held on January 10, 2008.

For participation in this protest a young activist Andrei Kim was sentenced to a year and a half in a penal colony (he was released in August 2008). An activist of the civil campaign “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Barazenka was sentenced to 1 year of restriction of liberty without sending him to a penal colony. He was kept in remand jail from October 27 to December 9, 2008. Other participants of the Process of Fourteen – Alyaksei Bondar, Artsyom Dubski, Mikhal Kryvau, Mikhal Pashkevich, Ales Straltsou, Ales Charnyshou, Tatsyana Tsishkevich, Mikhail Subach and Paval Vinahradau, were sentenced to 2 years of restriction of freedom without sending them to penitentiary institutions. Minor Maxim Dashuk got 1.5 years of restraint of liberty.
