The arms will be delivered in the frameworks of the development of the joint regional air defense system.

It was said by Lieutenant General Vadim Volkovitsky, First Deputy Commander of the Russian Air Force.

“This unified air defense system (of Russia and Belarus – IF) must be provided with the advanced weapon. We are now discussing the terms of delivery of S-400 systems to Belarus. This will undoubtedly take place in the framework of the unified air defense system,” Interfax quotes V. Volkovitsky.

The concrete terms of S-400 systems delivery are being discussed at the moment, V. Volkovitski said.

He added that the Russian army would continue to receive S-400 Triumph systems in 2009, but didn’t say exact terms of the supplies.

The S-400 missile is developed and produced by Almaz-Antei concern. The Russian army has two S-400 regiments.

The S-400 Triumph is designed to destroy airborne targets (including stealth aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, at a distance of up to 400 kilometers. The experts say S-400 Triumph exceed all similar missiles.

The S-400 is capable of serving as an air defense system and an anti-missile system. Computer equipment of the S-400 complexes excludes the so called human factor.

According to experts one S-400 system is as effective as three S-300 systems.

It should be reminded that Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Dmitry Medvedev signed the agreement on the joint air defense system in Moscow in February 2009.
