People's Assembly of self-appointed Abkhazia: Official Minsk carries out “explicit bargaining”

8

The Belarusian authorities are dragging out adoption of a decision on recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

The head of the People’s Assembly of Abkhazia Natella Akaba called the position of official Minsk in the recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia “open bargaining”.

As “Nasha Abkhazia” website reminds, the official address of breakaway republics on their recognition was sent back in the late December 2008. However, the Belarusian authorities still postpone taking decision on this issue, despite of the pressure by Russia.

Before Belarus was included in the Eastern Partnership program, European structures called upon Minsk not to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia’s independence. Some analysts believe that the leadership of Belarus would agree to this step, but in autumn.

Last August the Belarusian authorities stated that they would recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia’s independence, but in September political reality changed, and Lukashenka stated openly that there would be no hurry with recognition of independence.

At the moment only Russia has recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The president of Nicaragua brought up the issue of the recognition for discussion, but the parliament declined the proposal.
