Gomelsteklo company director Yury Ilyeu arrested

According to preliminary information, the big manufacturer was arrested by KGB.

“He is supposed to be in the KGB,” “Belorusski Partizan” has learnt from office of the former director. It was found from the conversation with workers of the enterprise that a checking commission from Minsk was in the office of the acting director.

Kastsyukouka working town located 12 km from Homel is struck with panic. A new float glass line was to be opened at Gomelsteklo plant in December. But infroamtion about the arrest of Gomelsteklo director Yury Ilyeu appeared this week. Rumours saying the line might not be opened are circulating round the town.

According to preliminary information, Gomelsteklo director was charged with excess of power and bribery. However, the dwellers of Kastsyukouka say the arrest was intended. “The workers liked Mr Yury. People say his arrest is a pity,” Ms Nadzezhda, a pensioner from Kastsyukouska, told “Belorusski Partizan”.

Yury Ilyeu has been a director since 2000. He was in top 100 the most influential glass manufactures in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) a moth ago.

In October 2008, information about selling Gomelsteklo block of shares to a big investor appeared. The decision was taken by the Ministry of Architecture and Construction. Minsk officials may have been unsatisfied with governing style of Gomelsteklo director general Yury Ilyeu that contradicts their nontransparent investment plans.

By the way, it is the second time when directors of Gomelsteklo have been involved in accidents. In 2000, director Uladzimir Zapolski was shot dead in his house.
