Lithuanian prime minister at last noticed threat of Belarusian Russian drills

Lithuanian politicians started to speak about this threat after the decision of the US not to place ABM defence system elements in Europe.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius wants to secure the guarantees that the US would stick to its promises relating defence and maintenance of security of Lithuania. Andrius Kubilius said that Lithuania viewed ABM elements in Eastern Europe as a symbol of US readiness to defend Europe, DELFI informs.

“The US Administration should know that dwellers of Central Europe want simple things: they just want to know they are not alone,” Andrius Kubilius said to Bloomberg on Thursday.

“I do not want Lithuanian citizens to start thinking that Russia is in some aspect winning the discussion which country, Russia or the US, have more influence in Central Europe,” Andrius Kubilius said.

“After Obama adopted such a decision while Russian military exercises are held in less than 50 kilometres from Lithuanian border, people may think that Lithuania is defended worse,” the politician said.

Andrius Kubilius admitted that he hadn’t been warned about the changes in the US policy of defence beforehand.

It should be noted that Lithuanian Prime Minister didn’t see any threat of Belarusian-Russian exercises a few days ago, when he met with dictator Lukashenka.
