Zaika: People purchase dollars to preserve their incomes

41

Deficit of cash currency is sharply felt in Belarusian regions.

According to the National Bank, demand for currency has been overriding its supply considerably for the fourth month already.

An economist Leanid Zaika connects it with wages increase which was promised by the Belarusian authorities, “Euroradio” transmits.

“People know that wages are to be raised. This means that prices will be raised as well. If prices are raised, so inflation will snap into action, and the Ruble will become cheaper. People are preserving their incomes. Such an active incomes rise policy disagrees with our economic possibilities. In Soviet time the Central Committee would have punished the Secretary of a Soviet Republic! If GDP would have increased by 6% in this republic, and wages by 9% - he would have been sent to Nigeria to serve as ambassador”, - Leanid Zaika is sure.

When GDP increases by 6% wages may be raised only by 4%, the economist says. According to Zaika’s words, citizens could have bought shares of profitable enterprises instead of currency. But there are no conditions for that.
