US Embassy press officer: American analysts are on private visit

The visit, which was given so much attention by the Belarusian propaganda, does not bear any relation to the US Government.

Belarusian dictator Alyaksandr Lukashenka has met today a group of American analysts. A group of representatives of US analytical centers is on visit to Belarus from December 12 to December 15. According to the press service of the Belarusian MFA, the American delegation consists of progamme directors, professors and academicians of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Congressional Research Service, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Heritage Foundation, Nuclear Threat Initiative, Institute for New Democracies, and Radford University.

Lukashenka emphasized during the meeting that representatives of the US analytical centers visited Belarus during the country’s election campaign.

However, the website charter97.org learnt from the US embassy in Minsk that the visit was private.

As said by the embassy’s press officer Christopher Panico, the visit was private and the delegation didn’t bear any relation to the US Government. He stresses that the United States is a free country, where any citizen has the right to meet with anybody he or she wants.
