Siarhei Kalyakin: Elections in Belarus need to be cancelled

The coordinator of the “For Fair Elections” campaign called upon the voters to advertise the facts of forcing to vote.

“Everywhere in Belarus the election commissions are formed with howling violations of the Electoral Code and actually can’t sum up the results of the voting. In fact the current elections are to be cancelled and started all over again, as the results of these elections are impossible to be accepted”, stated one of the coordinators of the “For Fair Elections” campaign Siarhei Kalyakin, website udf.by writes.

As to the campaign results, many election commissions consist of the members of one working group, that is strictly forbidden by Belarus legislation, in accordance to which there can be only one representative of the working group in every commission, in order to avoid corruption in the commission.

Moreover, Siarhei Kalyakin notes, the heads and the members of the election commissions demonstrate blatant ignorance in the issues of election legislation.

For example, replying to written questions of the activists of the “For Fair Elections” campaign concerning the problems of ballot boxes and ballots preservation, they said it’s assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, thought in the Electoral Code there’s even no reference to the police, Siarhei Kalyakin noted.

As to the work of the observers from the “For Free Elections” campaign, according to Siarhei Kalyakin, there were no problems with their registration. But as soon as independent observers start to fulfill their functions actively, they are removed for absolutely unsubstantiated reasons.

As to the data, mainly those who are made vote early are the students and the scholars who live in the dormitories, employees of internal affairs bodies, military men, employees of state services, enterprises and institutions. In the administrative resource employees of the executive committees, members of the commissions, employees of the administrative institutions and enterprises are involved.
