AFN: Yarmoshyna let her guard down because of revolution spirit in the air

By the end of the election campaign the chair of the Central Election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna finally gave up and lost political and legal vigilance.

Trying to warn the society that open air celebrations on Kastrychnitskaya (Oktyabrskaya) Square in Minsk on December 19 are for some reason a violation of the law, Yarmoshyna negated even a hypothetic possibility of the second round of the presidential election or calling a new election, or simply took the liberty to treat the law currently in force in the way advantageous to the government, AFN reports.

“On December 19 at 8 p.m. we do not have presidential candidates any more, so no events or meetings can be staged in Belarus after 8 p.m., as the electoral law does not provide for that,” Yarmoshyna stated. She is 148 per cent sure that Lukashenka would win in the first round, and voter turnout would exceed 50%.

Such certainty could be explained by only one fact – the rigged election results have been already brought to the notice of the CEC chair.

However, she had not simply distorted the law.

“Back in the 1990ies Minsk city executive committee adopted a decision that Kastrychnitskaya Square is not meant for holding public events. Even the government does not hold any public and political events here. There are no double standards, it is a common standard that applies to all political actors and all citizens of Belarus,” Lidia Yarmoshyna told a lie.

She lied, as otherwise it could be called a loss of memory – the government staged public events on Kastrychnitskaya Square not once nor twice, and Lukashenka personally took part in them, AFN reports.
