Participant of February 8 demonstration: “Riot militiamen dragged me on the ground some meters”

Yulia Hlushytskaya, an activist of the civil campaign European Belarus, was beaten up at an action of solidarity with Vaukavysk businessmen.

The youth activist was beaten until her face was bleeding. Yulia Hlushytskaya told the site jeans-by.com how she had been detained:

“When riot militiamen surrounded us, the participants of the action sat on the ground. One of them pulled me out of the chain with the words: “Come on, girl, go here.” Then I was dragged on the ground some meters. My friend Anastasia was dragged on the ground by her legs. I felt a strong hit at my nose. I don’t remember how I got on the bus. I noticed only in the bus that my nose hurt and I had blood on my glove,” Hlushytskaya said.

“In a militia department, when I told militiamen I had been beaten and showed them a bloody handkerchief, they smiled in reply and mocked,” Yulia Hlushytskaya said.

The European Belarus activist and other participants of the action are going to complain to a prosecutor’s office about actions of militia.

As charter97.org has reported, an opposition action was brutally dispersed in Minsk on February 8, on the day when the Vaukavysk businessmen had been arrested a year ago. Riot militiamen in mufti hindered journalists to film the outrage.
