Chernobyl Way rally begins near Academy of Science April 26

The Minsk city executive committee permitted to hold the Chernobyl Way rally in Minsk on April 26, but offered its route.

According to the Minsk city executive committee, the rally is to begin at Academy of Science and end in People’s Friendship Park. The organizers received permission on April 20, BelaPAN learnt from one of the applicants Dzyanis Sadouski, an executive secretary of the organizing committee on crating the party Belarusian Christian Democracy.

The application for the rally to the Minsk city executive committee asked to permit a march along Independence Avenue. It was planned to gather near the Presidium of Academy of Science of Belarus at 6:00 p.m. April 26 and go to October square to have a meeting there.

However, organizers of Chernobyl Way 2010 said at a press conference on April 19 they could agree on a compromise. “The Minsk city executive committee offered a compromise variant. So, we plan to gather near Academy of Science and go to Chernobyl chapel for praying and laying flowers. We won’t have a meeting in the People’s Friendship Park,” Sadouski noted.

According to him, the ideology department of the Minsk city executive committee invited the applicants of the rally have been called for a conversation about holding at 10 a.m. April 21.
