Source in Medvedev’s Administration: Dishonesty of Lukashenka became a norm long ago

The Kremlin regrets to notice Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s inconsistency on a variety of issues.

Among other things, the matter of recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia was meant, RIA Novosti reports.

“Alyaksandr Lukashenka promised to recognize independence of the two republics at a session of the SCTO member states in the presence of the leaders of these countries,” journalists learnt from a source in the Russian president’s administration.

“Dishonesty and inconsistency of Alyaksandr Lukashenka on that issue as well as many others have unfortunately become a norm long ago,” the Kremlin’s source said.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev noted Belarus had solemnly promised to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia but nothing had been made so far. On Friday, Lukashenka said in response: “I haven’t promised this solemnly. Nobody heard this.” “Solemnly means that everyone hears this… If Russia had made steps forward, the situation may have been different,” the Belarusian ruler noted. “I’d prefer not to dispute on the point. My Russian colleague just takes words out of context, which is dishonest and unfair,” Lukashenka said during his trip around Minsk region on August 13.
