Estonia’s Chargé d’Affaires in Belarus resigns due to anonymous letter

Harry Lahtein, Estonia’s Chargé d’Affaires in Belarus, submitted his resignation on August24.

This step was caused by accusations of sexual harassment from a 20-year-old girl from Minsk, BelaPAN reports referring to the Estonian newspaper Postimees.

Press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Kersti Luha said the ministry had launched an inner investigation in connection with the anonymous letter, which was sent by a supposed victim to different institutions in the evening on August 23.

Harry Lahtein has sent the ministry a resignation letter which was accepted. The4 resignation is caused by the anonymous letter,” Luha said.

The author of the letter to Postimees, a 20-year-old girl from Minsk, says she got acquainted with Lahtein about a year ago and became a victim of sexual harassment. According to the authors of the letter, the diplomat issued Schengen visas to her and her friends as a reward.

Photos of parties in restaurants were attched to the letter. The pictures show Lahtein enjoying his time with young girls at the table with alcoholic drinks.
