Zhirinovsky: Lukashenka has started election campaign with embassy’s arson (Video)

Employees of the Russian diplomatic mission have not been injured by the blast by sheer chance, mass media inform.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is indignant at the attack against the Embassy of Russia to Belarus. Such a statement has been published. Firebombs were thrown onto the compound of the diplomatic mission in Minsk. Moscow views the incident as an attempt to bring mistrust and tensions to the relations of the two countries, a Russian TV channel “Vesti” informs.

The Mazda burst into fire as a torch. When guards of the embassy ran up, the rear window of the car was broken, and the car was on fire. “A 0.3-liter glass bottle containing traces of a flammable substance and another bottle’s fragments with a wick were found by police experts at the scene,” told Alyaksandr Lastouski, spokesman for the city police department.

By all accounts, Molotov cocktails had been hurled through the fence by two persons. It is stated by Belarusian investigators. They have all possible information about the incident already.

“To the best of my knowledge, surveillance cameras were working on the perimeter. And as far as I know, this information has been given to investigators of Belarus,” said Vadim Gusev, public relations of the Russian Embassy to Belarus.

Fortunately, no one from the mission staff was injured. And the fire on the car was quickly extinguished. Otherwise the fire could spread to the building. A note was sent from Moscow to Minsk immediately. This night arson was called an outrageous act, an attempt to obstruct normal functioning of the embassy. Besides, the Russian side demanded to carry out rapid and thorough investigation and detect perpetrators and organizers of the crime.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry answered straight away. “This criminal act of hooliganism is directed against common sense and Belarusian-Russian relations,” said Andrei Savinykh, spokesman for the ministry.

A criminal case was initiated. But it is opened on charges related to usual “hooliganism” so far, as if the fire bombs had not been thrown to the territory of the embassy of the neighboring country.

“I can't bring myself to call it a domestic crime,” Chair of the Russian Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev said. “It is a political hooliganism. It is undoubtedly a strong signal for the Belarusian leadership itself. They should take care of this signal. They should think about what influence statements of Belarusian politicians have on minds and souls”.

“I see very influential forces which are stirring this hysteria. When hysteria is stirred, there are always people who are mentally unstable, easily disorientated, and who can dare to commit any acts of vandalism,” said Gennady Zyuganov, head of the faction of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation in the State Duma.

The leader of the LDPR (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia) Vladimir Zhirinovsky had his version of the events as well. “It was an attempt to set the Embassy of Russia on fire, at least to inflict harm. It is the beginning of the electoral campaign of president Lukashenka. Maybe it had not been planned by him. But his headquarters had decided to aggravate relations with Russia”.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who had birthday the day before, was out of Minsk today. Yesterday his visit to Homel region started. And he has not commented on the assault against the Russian Embassy from afar. But the answer is primarily expected from Belarusian law enforcers. Who and why threw the bottles?

This much talked-of incident has not influenced the work of the Belarusian Embassy to Russia. Everything goes as usual. The Central Internal Affairs Directorate of Moscow offered to step up security measures for the building in Maroseika Street just to be on the safe side. However, as it turned out, the staff of the embassy is guarded well even without that.
