UCP youth activist expelled from university for demonstration on Square

Tatsyana Hrybouskaya, activist of the UCP youth wing and first-year student of the Faculty of History at Belarusian State Pedagogical University, was told she was expelled from the university for “academic failure”.

As Tatsyana supposes, the reason was her presence at a demonstration on December 19 followed by arrest, the press service of the United Civil Party (UCP) reports.

“I was on the Square on December 19,” Tastyana tells. “I was detained and arrested for 10 days. Then I came to university. The dean said I had to have a document confirming my arrest that would be an excuse for my absence at university. I did so and I was allowed to pass credits.

I passed the credits and two exams without problems. But university teachers really flunked me in other two exams. One of the teachers gave me the lowest grade, the other hinted I had been on the Square and said it wasn’t the right start in my life.

I took another attempt to pass the exam, but the instructor said I had done everything wrong. She crossed my script without any explanations. Then I took the exam before the board of teachers. I was well prepared and confident in my answer. But they told I hadn’t prepared and said I was untalented. A subdean said before announcing the results that normal students should study, not go on demonstrations.

Now they want to expel me for academic failure.

I went to the accountant’s office and they said I had a reprimand for taking part in an unauthorized event. But the reprimand is not important, the reason for expulsion is academic failure.”

We remind that minister of education Syarhei Maskevich assured journalists yesterday at a press conference in Minsk that students wouldn’t be flunked out for taking part in an demonstration on December 19.
