64 organisations urge Minsk to release Byalyatski immediately

64 human rights organisations, members and partners of the network of Human Rights Houses, vigorously condemn the verdict to Ales Byalyatski.

It is stated in the joint address of human rights activists to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, and also to the Prosecutor General Alyaksandr Kanyuk and Justice Minister Alyaksandr Bilejchyk, BelaPAN informs.

“We urge the Belarusian authorities to dismiss all charges against Byalyatski immediately, and stop criminal prosecution against him,” the statement reads. “We believe that Byalyatski was punished for his participation in the human rights defence in Belarus. Byalyatski’s case is one more step of the Belarusian authorities against human rights activists, in order to put to silence the voices which remind about Belarus’ commitments in the sphere of human rights.”

The address has been signed by human rights organisations of Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Great Britain, Georgia, Denmark, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Sweden.
