Russia’s Presidential Human Rights Council calls upon Byalyatski’s release

The Presidential Human Rights Council (Russia) has condemn the verdict of Minsk court in the case of the well-known Belarusian human rights activist Ales Byalyatski.

“We condemn the verdict and call upon his immediate release,” the chairman of the Council Mikhail Fedotov said on Friday.

The verdict to Byalyatski was discussed on Friday at the session of the presidential Council in Moscow, Interfax reports.

M. Fedotov said that the Council calls upon “vacating of the judgement, release of the human rights activist, proceeding from considerations of humanity and justice.”

“We support the statements on the case of Byalyatski made by other human rights organisations,” the head of the Council stated.

As it was informed, Minks court had sentenced the leader of the Belarusian human rights centre “Viasna” Ales Byalyatski to 4.5 years’ imprisonment for tax evasion.

The verdict was condemned by many leading international NGOs.
