Zinaida Mikhnyuk to be tried the day before People’s Assembly

The court hearing in the case of Zinaida Mikhnyuk, the head of the Brest of People’s Assembly organizing committee, began but was adjourned till November 11.

The activist is accused of swearing before the beginning of the People’s Assembly on October 8, Radio Svaboda reports.

Zinaida Mikhnyuk does not admit the guilt. She demanded that policemen, who had detained her and made reports, should appear in court.

Mikhnyuk: “Only one of five injured policemen came to court today. He lied blatantly that I had been swearing. I asked to summon other policemen, but they did not appear. They said someone was on holidays, someone was engaged in military exercises. We figured out that no military exercises were carried out, but they reasons for not appearing were far-fetched.”

About 30 people came to support Zinaida Mikhnyuk, but the courtroom was too small to place them all. The judge did not hold trial in a bigger courtroom.

Zinaida Mikhnyuk, the head of People’s Assembly organizing committee and local leader of Independent Radioelectronics Trade Union, was detained on October 8 before the beginning of the People’s Assembly. She was guarded to the Maskouski district police department, where policemen drew up a report over swearing. She was released three hours later.
