Workers forced to lay flowers at Lenin monuments

All over Belarus celebrations dedicated to October revolution are to be held.

As Belsat has found out, Brest regional executive committee has approved the schedule of laying flowers to monuments and busts of Lenin in the region. Local ideologues are appointing representatives of organisations and enterprises who are to take part in it.

Veterans are to come and bow thanks to Lenin with them. “A document signed by the chairman of the ideology department of Staritski district has been received at the plant. On October 4 the administration is to appoint workers who will lay flowers to monument of Lenin on Privokzalnaya Square,” said a representative of the sugar factory in Zhabinka. “If workers would start to refuse, they said those who have disciplinary infractions should go.”

Representatives of Communist parties are to mark the 94th anniversary of the October Revolution by laying flowers at Lenin monument in Independence Square in Minsk, as well as at monuments of other Communist leaders: Kalinin, Kirov, Sverdlov. None of the parties have applied for holding pickets and rallies.

The chairman of the Belarusian Language Society named after F. Skaryna, historian Aleh Trusau believes that people should remember the events of 1917, as they really had changed the world, however November 7 should not be celebrated at national level. “As for Lenin monuments, which are found in every our town now, I offer to collect them in one place and create a museum of Soviet period, as Lithuanians have done. In Grūtas Park in Druskininkai monuments of Lenin, Stalin, Dzerzhinsky are places at one site. Lithuanians have even developed international tourism thanks to that, and earn money!” the expert says.

According to him, such a museum could appear not far from Kurapaty near Minsk. “People should know who had created the Soviet Union and what the result of that was,” Aleh Trusau said recalling victims of Stalin-era repressions.
