Lukashenka thinks reason of protests in Egypt is lack of food

57

He said that “all riots in Northern Africa” were caused not by protests of local population against dictatorial regimes, but by food shortages, “Salidarnasts” reports.

Lukashenka said at a meeting that exports of Belarusian products, including dairy products, should be increased. He also noted that special attention should be given to food processing. He said, “Milk is not just a commodity for Belarus, but an essential factor in the economy and politics.”

The dictator reminded about hungry people in the world and then switched to protests in Tunis, Egypt, and Yemen.

“Processing of agricultural products in modern world is acquiring a strategic importance for any country,” Interfax-Zapad quotes Lukashenka. “Two billion people in the world are starving. All the riots around the world, including developed countries, began in Northern Africa because there was not enough food. And the food that was available was not affordable for 75% of the population in these states.

Under “riots” in Northern Africa Lukashenka probably meant the events in Tunis, Yemen, and Egypt. In his view, people protest there because they lack food. However, the world’s media has been showing quite different information and pictures in the last few weeks, and Lukashenka has surely seen it.
