Russians trial interrupted till March 10

The trial of Russian Artiom Breus and Ivan Gaponov is interrupted till March 10, in accordance with the resolution of Judge Lubov Simakhina, as BelaPAN reports.

The defense appealed to changing of the sentence to the ban to leave the country, but the motion was dismissed.

Lawyers of the Russians Elena Kazak and Ludmila Gaponova asked for a break in the trial in order to get acquainted with the new charge. Today attorney of state Sergei Kunash said that within part 2 of article 293 of the Criminal Code (participation in mass disorders), the Russian citizens are accused of disorders , raids, armed resistance to authorities and assault of the police. Kunash announced the list of the assaulted policemen (more than 10 names) who, according to him, were beaten up by Breus and Gaponov among other demonstrators. The policemen’s acknowledgements of the assaults, minutes of their interrogations and the resolution of the court medical expert were included to the case.

The Russian Embassy considers charges against Artiom Breus and Ivan Gaponov forged and demands their liberation, as Interfax-Zapad reports.

“The Russian Embassy considers the charges pressed against Breus and Gaponov forged, and we insist on their liberation”, Russian Embassy councilor Vadim Gusev told the media on Tuesday.

“We have many questions regarding the new proceedings. For example, as it was announced in court, there are 15 new witnesses who claim they have been assaulted, but where have they been before?” V.Gusev remarked.

The Russian Embassy councilor emphasised: “We insist on liberation of the Russian citizens. Our position in this regard is firm. It has been repeatedly announced by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the highest authorities of the country.”
