“Stop Petrol-2” rally organizer summoned to police department

The nation-wide rally “Stop petrol-2” is to take place in Minsk and in 12 other cities of the country today.

Automobilists are set to protest against rise in fuel prices.

The protest had been initiated by an organizing committee of “For Auto” association. One of the organizers, Artsyom Sharkou, told to the European Radio for Belarus, that people are to gather at three filling stations of the city and then they are to drive along Independence Avenue, in order to start their movement in the direction of the National Library at 7.30 p.m.

“As far as I know, at the moment very many different clubs have joined us, illegal street racers’ and car clubs, and also many people who had not taken part in car campaigns before. There will be at least several hundreds of cars”.

Sharkou hopes that participants of the protest would have no problems with law-enforcers.

However, it seems that problems started even before the beginning of the protest. After an interview to the European Radio for Belarus, he received a phone call from Minks police. He was invited for “a conversation”.
