Agreement on small-scale border traffic with Lithuania and Latvia takes force after July 1

The agreement on small-scale border traffic with Lithuania and Latvia can come into force after July 1.

“As far as I know, Lithuania and Latvia are actively working on this issue. Poland delays solving this issue due to a number of circumstances,” chairman of the State Border Committee Ihar Rachkouski said at a press conference in Minsk, Interfax-Zapad reports.

According to Rachkouski, both border guards and police will control the stay in the border areas. Going beyond the border area will be punished with depriving the right of simplified crossing border.

The agreement on border traffic provides for simplified border crossing procedures for people living in the border area for at least the last three years. The agreement also allows such citizens to stay in the border area (50 kilometres from the border) for up to 90 days in six months.
